GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN
WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT MADE BY EIGHT-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 11 MALANG
ABSTRACT
This research was carried out to
determine and describe the grammatical errors in writing descriptive text made
by the eight-grade students of SMP Negeri 11 Malang. This research was
conducted based on the fact that there were many errors in writing descriptive
text made by the eight-grade students of SMP Negeri 11 Malang.
This research used a qualitative research
design. A qualitative research design was used to determine and describe the
errors and the frequency of errors in writing descriptive text made by the
eight-grade students of SMP Negeri 11 Malang. The research instrument used in
this research was writing test. The writing test used was in form of
descriptive writing. The population of this research was the eight-grade
students of SMP Negeri 11 Malang that consisted of 270 students. The researcher
used simple random sampling in taking the sample. The sample was taken from F
class that consisted of 34 students. In analyzing the data, the researcher used
Surface Strategy Taxonomy.
The result of data analysis showed
that there were four types of errors made by students in writing descriptive
text. There were omission errors, addition errors, misformation errors, and
misordering errors. Meanwhile, the frequency of errors made by the students in
writing descriptive text showed that the frequency of omission errors was (56.52%), addition errors was (7.60%), misformation errors
was (30.43%). and misordering
errors was (5.43%). Furthermore, the highest frequency of errors was omission
errors, whereas the lowest frequency of errors was misordering.
